THE CRITICAL NEED FOR ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION.

There is a great need for organ and tissue donation in our area. Learn more about this opportunity.
WE DID IT!  The volunteer roster for Bob Feist is filled.  Thank you for your commitment to staff this event.

Now we need to fill the volunteer roster for the Rodeo Beer Booth.  Please go to the Reno South Rotary website http://renosouthrotary.com/, click on "Calendar", click on the "Rodeo Beer Booth" event found starting on June 14th and sign up.  You will need to have a working Login Name and Password on the site to do this.  If you have not set these up, and don't remember your password, when it asks for your Login Name and Password click on "New and existing users: retrieve login and/or reset password."  That should get you going.

This is a very important fund raising activity and RSR needs your help.  The more who show up the less the burden and the greater the joy!
Speaker Peter Mires - "Lake Tahoe's rustic architecture"
Rustic houses and buildings have captured the interest of Dr. Peter Mires.  Thus, he has studied the rise of the rustic architectural style.  Some of the best examples are found in the Tahoe area.  He has written a book (click for more, "Lake Tahoe's Rustic Architecture") with great historic and contemporary photos of many of Tahoe's great structures.  This style was first made famous by US Park Service buildings such as the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite and was even known as "parcitechture".  Thank you Dr. Mires for this look at the cool rustic heritage of our area.

Of particular interest to us Rotarians was Dr. Mires account of his childhood battle with Polio at the age of 1.5 years.  He is a survivor.  He brought his childhood leg brace to show.  It is made of leather and steel and had to be heavy on a child's leg.  He now carries it with him as he hikes the Tahoe Rim Trail to remind him of the first eight years of his life when he could not walk without leg braces.
Dr Mires was especially moved when RSR honored him as speaker by donating five immunizations against Polio in his name.
