High Desert Montessori Charter School (HDMCS) is the only public Montessori school in the area. Their mantra is "follow the child." The big difference in this approach is to let the children take the initiative which more closely resembles the work environment. Students get uninterrupted blocks of time for concentration. HDMCS currently has over 400 students with a waiting list to get in. The school is largely powered by on site solar and offers an organic school lunch program.

Jeneane Harter is the founder and chair of Sustainable Nevada. She also spoke and told how they help schools design, develop and implement ecoliteracy programs. Thank you Tami and Jeneane for speaking to us.
