Speaker Irene Douglas - "An American Woman in Pakistan"
Irene traveled as a newlywed to Pakistan with her husband who was hired to help build a 500 family company town in northern Pakistan to service construction on a 5 river dam.  This 5 year project was completed in 6 years.  Irene helped start a women’s medical clinic and helped build a K-12 school.  She also helped with Peace Corps' effort to teach food sanitation like boiling water to disinfect and the use of solar ovens.  She had a hard time with food preparation and choices.  A big difference was that the Pakistani women were strongly subjugated by men, family and government.  She hasn’t been back, though it was a wonderful experience.   Thank you Irene for sharing this story of the world with Reno South Rotary.  And thank you Kate Nickolls for sharing the speaker contact.  And thank you Press Clewe for your excellent notes and photos.
