Pick your picnic side dish and sign up for the 2017 picnic
Holly Bromley is putting together the food for the picnic.  The club member side dishes were a big hit last year so we are doing it again.  Click through the side dish sign up email sent earlier to claim your side dish and register for the event.  The picnic is Thursday August 10th at 5p at Galena Creek Park (same place as last year)
Carmen English, attorney at law specializes in immigration law. She stated that we are all aware of how much this is a hot topic and how passionate the subject is. Immigration has always been part of the history of the United States. When any immigrants come to this country, the first question asked is "What is the nature of your visit?" Immigration falls into two categories, non-immigrants and immigrants. Non-immigrants are those individuals who are not wishing to live here but are here for a number of reasons including temporary visits for medical, vacation, student exchange, family emergencies and temporary business. Immigrants are those individuals seeking a green card to be able to live in the United States. There are about 226,000 green cards issued each year. Most are applying thru a family member or through petition to the US Government. Once an application is submitted its status can be viewed by reviewing the State Department's Visa bulletin which is updated monthly. Children, parents or spouses of US residents are usually fast tracked. Other persons such as individuals coming here to work go through a more rigorous process involving the Department of Labor. Individuals such as doctors which have specialties not already in the United States, persons seeking asylum and persons seeking spousal visas are other examples. Thank you Carmen for informing us of the many types of persons trying to enter into our United States the legal way.
Oktoberfest 2017 happens September 23rd
Ann Potts and Matt Buehler are running the Silent Auction this year.  Silent Auction items are the key to our fund raising success.  Check out the Silent Auction email sent previously.  It will lead you through an easy process to choose the auction item you want to give.  You can buy it or ask for a donation.  Save the date and jump to help when asked.

Remember each member is asked to bring one bottle of wine to a meeting to be poured at the Oktoberfest. Maximum value $15.
Know Your Rotarian
Pete Sanborn was this week's winner in President Doug's "Know Your Rotarian" game.  We learned that Pete is a realtor. He was born in Hawaii. He is married and has seven children scattered around in CA, AZ, OR and WA. Pete joined Rotary many years ago in 1980. Fun fact: Several years back Pete filmed a commercial for Arnold Palmer. He did not know it at the time but the commercial paid a residual of $125 each time the commercial aired.    Be ready!  You could be next.  Pete is now in the pool to win a prize.  You have to play the game to be entered.
