Rotary Theme for October:
Community and Economic Development

Lat week's speaker was Robert E. Vinson, Jr., from the Rotary Club of Incline-Tahoe.  Upshot:  Franchises ARE fascinating.  Franchises have a tremendous economic impact in the US (don't you wish you'd been an original McDonalds franchise owner?).  Franchises "officially began in the 1800's, although they have roots in Europe back to the 1500's.
Fun Facts
US Franchise "Units": 774,965
Employment: 8,192,600
Output:  787.7 Billion
Industries represented:  300+

November 3 - Professor Ramin Motamed, Assoc. Professor at UNR, Civil and Environmental Engineering.  Dr. Motamed works with the shake table at UNR (a prior vocational tour) He will speak about in-ground foundations--practical information and research.  Especially important in our area, as earthquakes are the #1 major risk for the area as a whole.
