The Rotary Club of Reno South, in cooperation with treesRus, is sponsoring the Washoe Lake State Park Restoration Project and we need you, your spouse, friends, children, and/or grandchildren to participate in order to make this Community Service Project a success. This event is scheduled on Saturday, October 23 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the main entrance to Washoe Lake State Park located on East Lake Boulevard in Washoe Valley. We are organizing car pools/ride sharing from south Reno to Washoe Valley in an attempt to secure your participation. Please meet in the front parking lot (SE Corner) at Tamarack Junction casino - 13101 S. Virginia Street at 8:30 am to organize the car pools. We will return as soon as the project is completed. You will need to bring a rake, shovel, pruning sheers, work gloves and your favorite morning beverage to help in clearing brush and plant material which was damaged in a fire during this past summer (see attached flyer). We will also be planting around 30 trees to replace those which were damaged in the fire. The treesRus organization will provide some bottled water and light breakfast snacks as well. We hope to see you on Saturday, October 23 as we complete this Community Service Project and "SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES"! |

You are invited to attend the weekly, joint meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Reno Central and Reno South at Atlantis Casino Resort Spa on Tuesday, November 9 at noon. This week's program will be of special interest for its international perspective. Our guest speaker will be Jenifer Colpas Fernandez, founder and CEO of Tierra Grata. She will present to us via Zoom from the UK. Tierra Grata is a social enterprise that provides access to basic energy, water and sanitation services to rural communities in Columbia. To date, they have managed to reach around 10,000 users. Ms. Fernandez has postgraduate studies in Social Responsibility and graduate studies in International Business with more than 6 years of experience in the management of social development programs in Brazil and Columbia. Jenifer is also a Global Sharper and One Young World Ambassador since 2017. |

We will be joining with members of the Rotary Club of Reno Central to celebrate the holiday season at Eldorado Casino Resort's Novi Nightclub on Wednesday, December 8th. Please RSVP by Tuesday, November 30 by signing up at the Welcome Table during an upcoming weekly meeting or by responding to this event invitation.Cost is $75 per person. Entertainment will be provided by Milton Merlos, guitarist. There will also be an ugly holiday tie contest, which women are encouraged to participate in. We will also confirm your choice of entree from menu choices after you RSVP. You are also asked to bring a $25 or $50 gift card for a restaurant to assist the families supported by the Northern Nevada Children's Cancer Foundation. Dr. Elfass will share some of his research findings on "Experimental and Analytical Studies of Seismic Performance of Foundations". This topic should be of great interst to all of us living in such a seismicly active State. Vocational Tour of UNR's Shake Tables On Tuesday, March 29 we will be dark at noon to allow us to take a Vocational Tour of the Shake Tables located in the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory on the UNR campus. Park on the 5th Level of the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex on South Virginia Street just south of 15th Street (Lawlor Events Center and the E.I. Wiegand Fitness Center) and proceed on foot south & east to the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (see attached map of the UNR campus). Our tour is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. Please RSVP to this invitation no later than noon this Friday, March 25th as we are inviting the members of the Rotary Club of Reno Central to join us and space is limited. |

You won't want to miss this meeting as we celebrate the successes of a group of ABO students who will "tell their stories" at our weekly meeting. This event is always a highlight of the Rotary year, and this year will prove no different. The Achievement Beyond Obstacles scholarship program was founded in 1996 by Reno South Rotary as the Most Improved Student program and to date has awarded over $250,000 in scholarship funds to deserving students who have overcome major obstacles in their lives, and who are continuing their education at either a community college, university or trade school. |
