Our guest speaker on January 18 will be Dr. Sherif Elfass, Research Associate Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno. Dr. Elfass will share some of his research findings on "Experimental and Analytical Studies of Seismic Performance of Foundations". This topic should be of great interst to all of us living in such a seismicly active State. We had a great turn-out yesterday, so let's keep the momentum up at our in-person meetings so that we can soon declare 2022 as the "Year of Rotary Recovery"! |

Vocational Tour of UNR's Shake Tables On Tuesday, March 29 we will be dark at noon to allow us to take a Vocational Tour of the Shake Tables located in the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory on the UNR campus. Park on the 5th Level of the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex on South Virginia Street just south of 15th Street (Lawlor Events Center and the E.I. Wiegand Fitness Center) and proceed on foot south & east to the Earthquake Engineering Laboratory (see attached map of the UNR campus). Our tour is scheduled to begin at 4:00 pm. Please RSVP to this invitation no later than noon this Friday, March 25th as we are inviting the members of the Rotary Club of Reno Central to join us and space is limited. |

You won't want to miss this meeting as we celebrate the successes of a group of ABO students who will "tell their stories" at our weekly meeting. This event is always a highlight of the Rotary year, and this year will prove no different. The Achievement Beyond Obstacles scholarship program was founded in 1996 by Reno South Rotary as the Most Improved Student program and to date has awarded over $250,000 in scholarship funds to deserving students who have overcome major obstacles in their lives, and who are continuing their education at either a community college, university or trade school. |

The 56-year old rowed 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, arriving into English Harbour in Antigua on February 21st after 70 days 19 hours and 29 minutes at sea. Owen will share his experiences while participating in this unique challenge. You won't want to miss next week's program and guest speaker! |

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Here is your opportunity to contribute to the Rotary Club of Reno South by volunteering to take tickets during the Resistol Reno Team Roping Championship scheduled on Saturday, June 18 from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center located at 1350 N. Wells Ave. Reno, NV 89512. We need 6 volunteers for each of the two shifts throughout the day. The first shift runs from 7:00 am to 11:00 am with the second shift scheduled from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The event will take place in the indoor arena on the rodeo grounds. Please sign-up by going to the volunteer secion of this event and choosing which shift you would like to volunteer. The Bob Feist Invitational organization pays Reno South Rotary $900.00 for our time and efforts for the day, so please participate and help with this fundraiser! |
