19 DAYS TO
 SEPTEMBER 21 - OKTOBERFEST!!!!!!!

Each member is  responsible to bring 1 bottle of wine, 1 restaurant gift certificate and 1 other auction item for our fund raiser! (Let Jonnie, Dan or Bob know if you need your items picked up)   And sell those tickets, which are available now.  Each member is responsible for the purchase and/or sale of at least 4 tickets.

We need all of us to help.  The money we earn enables our contributions to our community.

Tickets may also be purchased at Eventbright - search for Reno South Rotary Oktoberfest:

The funds raised at Oktoberfest are placed in our Community Fund, and pay for our community projects, like Achievement Beyond Obstacles, Robinhood Park, Rotary Youth Exchange, and more...

HELP AT THE EVENT
We will need additional members who are certified through the Alcohol Awareness Training program to help pour at Oktoberfest.  But you need to be certified ahead of time:

Go to  http://www.aatnv.com and review the materials. Then schedule a time to take the test by phone at 775-823-9411. Show up at their location at 294 E. Moana Lane, Suite 23 (Independence Square) with $15.00 in CASH (they do not accept checks or credit cards) and pass the written test. They will then issue an ID card which is good for 4 years of pouring responsibly.

It seems like a hassle, but goes quickly and will help make the event a success.

 Thursty Thursday, August 29
Mike Steedman, co-owner of Nevada Sunset Winery gave an informative talk about the history of the wine making/winery business in Nevada (including legislative roadblocks) and a history of the 4th Street Wineries, which is occupied by 3 separate wineries.  Some RSR members enjoyed beer from Lead Dog next door, and all of us enjoyed the company and the presentation.

Upcoming RSR and Rotary Happenings:
September 5 - Britany Wiele,  Join Together Northern Nevada
Learn about this community coalition to help the community address the substance abuse that affects Northern Nevada, and how it intersects with Rotary efforts to build a better place to live for all of us

September 12 - Alex Stettinski – Executive Director, Downtown Reno Partnership.

September 19 - Rotary Means Business 5:30-7:30 pm at Scotty's Transmission& RPM https://www.eventbrite.com/e/september-rotary-means-business-tickets-65572070829

September 24 - Board meeting 7:30 a.m., Gold & Silver Inn

More Oktoberfest:
We would be semi-eternally grateful if all Reno South Rotarians got their donations in by Sept 13 so that Bev Carne has time to package our gifts for the auction, and Tori has an opportunity to create the fliers and bid sheets!  Otherwise the trusty volunteers have less hair at the time of the event...

Volunteer Opportunity
RSR members have supported McQueen High School’s Job Readiness Program, which is in need of mock interviewers. In a one day event, sophomore students are interviewed and given feedback on their interview skills, resume, cover letter and application. This is a priceless opportunity for them.  This year the event is on Tuesday, September 24th.  It is  rewarding and fun for participating Rotarians
