 Program July 21

Bill Hauck, Water Supply Supervisor for Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA), presented the latest data on upstream drought reserves, projections for Truckee River flows and how all that relates to our community’s water supply. There was a good audience--about 15 of us, which we need to be able to have good speakers!

Short story of what we learned:  TMWA has done projections for the next 50 years (and even further) taking climate change and extended droughts into account.  Because of good planning, the Truckee River Operating Agreement (which settled all the lawsuits relating to water rights on the River), well-managed ground water, and TMWA-owned up stream reserves, such as Donner lake and Stampede Reservoir, we are set for the next 50 years and beyond.  Assuming we don't squander and waste, of course.

Water rights are a complicated issue--but all development must pay for enough water rights for whatever they are building.
