December 9, 2018

Yo, Adrienne!

Meeting Dec 6

We had a good crowd to hear from our speaker, Sparks City Councilman Ed Lawson.  Ed, who has been active in Sparks Rotary since 1989, provided his insights into the local construction industry and its effect on the local economy, with i formation about our state and local tax structure thrown in.  Very informative, especially the comment about the additional (potentially) 50,000 workers coming to the area---"They are getting the gold mine and we are getting the shaft!"

Fines

- Reg Willison paid up for his 72nd birthday
- Joe Brown paid up for back-to-back (almost) trips to Monterey and Cabo (his marlin was too small--had to put it back...)
 - Adrienne Thomle paid for her birthday

Bridges Out of Poverty

Bridges needs volunteers for 1-2 hours a month to be intentional friends for the graduates, and to serve as a touchstone for their progress.  Training is provided.  Contact Dave Crumbley at 443.883.1201 or dave@cvirtual.com.  It's very rewarding.

Or, sign up to attend the Bridges training.  The next training is offered on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 | 8:30am-3:30pm.    You can sign up for the training at:

 Rotarian of the Week

Bud Schonder

Occupation:  Retired Opthamologist
Family: Married with 2 children and 1 wife
Why he joined Rotary: He wanted to become connected to the community, since there wasn't much opportunity in his office and operating room!
Interesting Fact: He said he doesn't have any, but John Howe volunteered that he and his wife won the dance contest at an RSR Christmas party...who knew?
