Yo, Adrienne!

On September 6 our District (5190) Governor Tina Spencer auctioned a basket for Polio Plus--we are not sure just how much we pledged (at least 5 club members for a total of $500 for sure).  She's raised about $25,000 so far; everything will be matched 2-1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. DG Tina was quite inspiring speaking about Rotary.  DG Tina also gave recognition to 2 RSR members for their hard work for the club.

Megan Reese

Member of the Week and Silent Rotarian Award (the club couldn't function without her behind the scenes for sure!)
Occupation: Enrolled Agent: Federally licensed by the IRS to prepare, file and represent taxpayers.  (she also has a Master's in Accounting!)
Family: Married 13 years -- 3 children
Why she joined Rotary: She was asked! She's stayed because of Achievement Beyond Obstacles (it was then MIS) and of course the fellowship.
Fun Fact:  She "writes" right-handed, but does everything else (!), including target shooting with her left hand.

Bob Stewart was inspired by his mentor and department chair Dr. Karen Silva at Johnson & Wales University.  We could all use such a fabulous mentor, as Bob described her efforts on his behalf.

Jonnie Pullman received the MVP Award.
She honored Dan Carne on the inspiration Board.  Dan and Rotary got a major-shout out for his contributions to the new affordable housing project (200 rooms!) on Sage Street. Our members are awesome!

Tickets:  $50

This is our annual fundraiser--we have fun and raise lots of money for our many projects in the community.

This bulletin contains important information for how you (and we) can all work together to have a successful event.  Please check below:

Important facts:
  • Local breweries provide the beer
  • There are other beverages
  • Food by Roundabout catering featuring bratwursts etc. from Flocchini Sausage in Carson
  • Other German specialties, such as pretzel bread
  • Nothing Bundt Cakes!!!
  • LIVE music! (and a chicken dance)
  • Wonderful silent auction opportunities and a raffle

Each Reno South Rotary member is responsible for selling/buying at least four tickets.  This should be easy with the information above and some more below. The more people who come, the more money we make for our projects.  Jonnie Pullman challenged club members:  she will buy a great bottle of wine (or other beverage) for anyone who sells more tickets than she--she's sold 13 so far.  Goal:  300 attendees!!  To help the event be successful, some projects and programs RSR supports are listed below AND opportunities to help with the event--we need all of you!

Major beneficiary: Achievement Beyond Obstacles

AND other projects supported by RSR:

That's all for now, folks.  More soon.
HELP REQUESTED:

Not all the breweries have staff available on the 22d to pour the beer, so we need volunteers.  it's fun--you get to talk with people and if 10 of us sign up for this, we'll have very short shifts.  To be able to do this, you will need an Alcohol Awareness Training card.  (If Press can do it, you know you can...)

Go to the Nevada Alcohol Awareness Training web site:

and sign up for the class--on line is $15.  Then you go to their office on E. Moana, take a quick test and you're set.  The card is good for 4 years.

Please let Kyle ( or Jonnie know if you have a card or are willing to get one, and can assist
