Family Picnic August 5
 
Kent Wood has been nominated as grillmaster of the year, and for "best ribs in the lower 48".  Thank you, Kent (and Kimberly) for grilling, preparing the ka-bobs, obtaining provisions and the grill, etc., etc., etc.  Not to mention the location!
 
A great time was had by all (30?) on a wonderful sunny day (sooo different from our snow party in a previous year)  And thank everyone for the delicious sides and desserts.

ROTARY EVENING AT ORACLE PARK - September 8th @ 7:15 PM
 
Time to show your Rotary colors, socialize and rub elbows with Rotarians from throughout the Bay Area - all while enjoying a ballgame!  
We are competing against Minneapolis to hold the 2029 Rotary International Convention in San Francisco, and the site selection committee will be at this event to see how ENERGIZED, COMMITTED and FUN  we Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors are!
 
Tickets are $35.  Tickets purchased earlier rather than later will have us all seated together in a lower box section seat.  Once our special Rotary area sells out, you will still be able to secure a comparable seat for the all inclusive price of $35.

 Allan Fox - Ret. Reno PD Cold Case Investigator
 
Young Charles and Jennifer CHIA were abducted on October 18, 1989 on their way home from school.  Nine months later, on July 25, 1990, their remains were found in a shallow grave 8 miles west of Portola California.  The Reno Police Department has allowed Allan to continue to work the case in retirement.  Allan will explain the core of the investigation, and lab work needed for evidence discovered, to bring the case to closure.

 August Community Service Project
The RSR August Community service project will benefit Project 150 Reno.  Project 150 Reno serves displaced, disadvantaged and homeless high school students in Northern Nevada.
 
They are requesting underwear, hygiene items and snacks. See the "Project150 Reno" wish list on Amazon for specifics. You can order through Amazon or purchase the same item elsewhere.
 
Kate will be at the August 17th meeting of Rotary Club of Reno South to accept donations or checks that will be delivered to Project 150 Reno in person, and there is a field trip on August 24 (monthly service project) to the site. ROTARY AID FOR MAUI
 
By now we are all familiar with the devastation and loss of life caused by the fire in Maui.  
We Rotarians can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.
A relief fund has been established through the Rotary District 5000 Foundation. The Rotary District 5000 Foundation is a 501c3 organization and all donations are considered charitable.  This is how the Hawaiian Rotary clubs coordinate relief--it's not easy to drive from Honolulu to Maui to help--do donations are used for immediate relief with gift cards, purchasing supplies, paying for emergency housing, etc.  
 
Monies will be used to make the largest impact based on needs and will be sustainable. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the greatest significant benefits.
