Meeting September 17
Oliver Grotz
Astrophotography in the Back Yard

Oliver (who is president of Reno Central Rotary Club) shared results of his hobby (or at least one of them):  taking pictures of the universe from the back deck.  Although limited by trees, light pollution from neighbors and smoke, the results he shared were stunning.  He mounts his camera on the telescope with a "coder" to reduce digital noise and uses a timer and light pollution filter.

"It's like having a time machine in your back yard", he commented, while reminding us that some of the furthest stars sending light for us to see are 52 million light years away.

More about the meeting:

Joel Muller paid $50 in honor of his appointment to the Investment Committee of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.  The Foundation has $120 million under management.

Matt Buehler paid $50 to commemorate paying off his house.  (He should invite us all over for an outdoor party, don't you think?)

Thank you to the 7 Reno South Rotary members who ordered District 5190 caps to help raise money for Polio+ - Rotary's effort to rid the globe of the scourge of polio.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who come together to make positive, lasting change in communities at home and abroad.
