RSR Helped Provide a Happy Christmas for the Baliangi Family

The RSR Board approved supporting this refugee family from the Congo, who came to Reno after many years in a refugee camp in Tanzania.  Holly Bromley, Jonnie Pullman and Bob Stewart visited the family on Christmas Eve and delivered an Instant Pot, Rice Cooker, 50 pounds of potatoes, 30 pounds of rice, gift cards, and other goodies purchased and prepared by our Rotarians.  Pictured with our Rotarians (from the left) are Ben, Oscar (grandfather) , Patrick and little Oscar.

On Sunday, January 6, Holly, Jonnie and Bob were joined by Holly's husband Richard, and new member Merve Hickok to take the entire family of eight shopping at Savers, where they learned about how to use gift cards, and were able to purchase their own items.  The other members of the family are Ramazani (dad), Furaha (mom) and two girls, Riziki and Kashindi.  The children attend Anderson Elementary, Pine Middle and Wooster High Schools.  Oscar works at the Sears warehouse and Ramazani at a manufacturing facility.

During the remainder of the year we hope more volunteers will help this family learn to adapt to Reno and become contributing members of the community.
