Masih Madani  speaking to RSR,
 
 
Our Speaker, Masih Madani, (President and CEO of Terra One) provided us with some hopeful news about an innovative approach to affordable housing using shipping containers.  By partnering with another 501c3, (Nevada Youth Empowerment Project) Masih and his company, TerraOne, will be building a small development near Keystone Avenue later this year.  A model of one of these homes will be on City Plaza (near the whale) in the near future.  He is building both custom tiny homes and affordable ones--earnings from the custom homes are used to subsidize the affordable ones.  If you are interested in learning more about this subject and Reno's affordable housing issues, go to

Occupation: Owner of Cool Breeze Refrigeration, which he started at age 25  
Family:  At age 42, he has 3 children, a boy and 2 girls--and his son is now driving at age 16.  Not sure of that's good or not good...
Why Rotary?: To serve the community and meet great people

Service Opportunities
 
Kyle Whaley announced a possible partnership with another club to sponsor a Rotaract Club at Coral Academy of Sciences. We will need volunteers, so let him know if you are interested!
 
Matt Buehler is collecting funds for family style meals for our Coast Guard service members posted at Tahoe City.  They are not being paid during the shutdown, and are on post away from their families 3 days at a time.  So far we've collected $250.  Contact Matt directly:  702.743.4735 (text/phone) or mattsuebuehler@hotmail.com
 
Kate Nickolls requested volunteers for STEM days (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)at a Reno middle school and Natchez Elementary.  You don't need to be a teacher or scientist to help run the activities!  Details to follow, but you can contact Kate at kat.nick89519@gmail.com.
