Program January 28

Lydia Peri and John Enloe from the Truckee Meadows Water Authority joined Reno South to provide information about one of the many ways TMWA is conducting long term planning for water supply and purity.  This particular project involves the purification of sewer effluent to federal and state drinking water standards, introducing it into the groundwater through an injection well.  Natural treatment in the ground further improves water quality, and will help recharge our aquifers.

Of interest is the partnership between all levels of government and higher education to address our long term environmental needs.

Volunteer Opportunity - Area 8 Rotary Focus

Immunize Nevada:
  • is looking for individuals wanting to volunteer their time remotely, assisting in answering phone calls and responding to emails about the COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Some FAQ's include: When is it my turn to get the vaccine? Where can I sign up? A script would be provided with FAQ's included in the script.
  • is looking for individuals to volunteer in person at mass vaccine clinics, mainly through Washoe County Health District at their location off of E. 9th St, but not always limited to that location. Volunteers would assist with: screening patients for COVID-19, assisting the vaccinator, traffic management, and watching people after they get their vaccine for any adverse reactions. These clinics are held outside, and proper PPE is provided. (volunteers assisting in frontline efforts are eligible for vaccines)
  • Washoe County Health District is also looking for a few volunteers to assist them with tallying their aggregate counts, M - F any time between 8am and 5pm. This would take place inside a conference room, with volunteers properly social distanced and wearing masks. A computer would be provided to you, and your job would be to tally up info like: race, ethnicity, tier group, etc - this is a repetitive and time consuming task, but is much needed.

Irene lived in Amsterdam and was 7 years old when on May 10, 1940 Germany invaded her country and the Nazi occupation started in The Netherlands.  She lived in a part of Amsterdam not far from where Anne Frank and her family lived before they had to go in hiding.

Her whole family became part of the resistance and her parents took Jewish people into hiding.  During her early childhood they lived in fear and privation--even young children were  reminded daily to not talk to anybody about the people hidden in the house, since the Nazis were always looking to find and deport Jews.

Irene will present the story of her youth under Nazi rules with slides and personal experience.
Follow her family’s endurance while learning history from one who was there and tells you a first hand narration.
