Last Weeks Program (March 11)

Wyn Spiller, Foundation Chair, Past Rotary District Governor, District 5190,

spoke about The Rotary Foundation's new Area of Focus - The Environment. Every Area of Focus contributes to Rotary's global mission of world peace. Did you know that:

The Rotary Foundation was founded 2 weeks after the US entered World War II
TRF is considered the major "monument of usefulness" of Rotary
Donations are the engine of TRF's good works, and our global, district and club grants are the vehicle for the good works
In the last 5 years more than $18 million has been given to environmental projects
TRF's Board streamlined processes and rules to allow emergency grants worldwide to respond to the Covid crisis. More than $8 million was provided to Districts for Covid Disaster Response Grants, in additional to all other grants

Wyn gave a shout-out to Reno South for participating in District Grant projects:

Soles for Souls, shoes for kids in Pakistan, sponsored by Fernley Rotary
Bridges out of Poverty
Laptops for students attending virtual classes
Achievement Beyond Obstacles
And - being one of 3 clubs in the District to qualify for Every Rotarian Every Year (every member contributes & the average donation is $100+)

Chef Demonstration and dinner!

Colin Smith attended the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and began his career as an apprentice in the kitchens of European chefs throughout the Bay Area. Colin came to Reno in 1994 and has done catering, special events and restaurants ever since. He is trained in the classical European style of cooking which shows in his technique and approach to unforgettable cuisine.

Colin will demonstrate how to prepare a delicious Italian dinner. You may watch, receive the recipe and cook along OR have a meal delivered (with wine!) Dinner delivery capped at 60 meals - so be first!)
