Yo, Adrienne!

Students at Reno South

We had a full house to hear from the students at Pine Middle School Eighth Grade Leadership), McQueen High School (RYLA - Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and Wooster (RYE - Rotary Youth Exchange).

Dan Carne explained the programs, and then introduced the students.  They shared what they have learned and expressed their appreciation for RSR's and Rotary International 's efforts on their behalf.  The common themes were gratitude,  appreciation of others different from themselves, and strengthened self-confidence (including publiic speaking at a Rotary meeting!).

Paula, our exchange student from Germany, has completed soccer season (with an injury) and is now managing the girl's basketball team) at Wooster.

We were all inspired.

Fines (tariffs)
Dave Behling paid $25 for a trip to Maui for a week.

Stan Goodin paid $50 for surviving (that is, not having a heart attack) seeing and feeling a snake while ensconced in a hunting blind!

Brandon Martin rang the bell--good to see you, Brandon!

Inspirations
Jonnie Pullman is inspired by Megan Reese's always cheerful service at the Welcome Table (and as club accountant) and by Alonso, our wonderful, long-time server and problem-solver at the Atlantis. Holly Bromley is inspired by Evelyn Mount, who is retiring after decades of community service.

Service Opportunities

We still need one bell-ringer for the Salvation Army on Saturday, 15 December from 4-6 p.m.  It will take place at the Smith's in south Reno.  Contact Bodie at 775.813.7107.  All 8 local Rotary clubs participate in this effort--let's do our share--it's fun!

Bridges Out of Poverty

RSR sponsored the District Grant for this project, which is the combined effort of 3 local Rotary clubs.  Participants have been moored in poverty for years.  They attend classes for 20 weeks to learn skills to help them move themselves up the economic ladder.  And more. For example, Bridges has made 12 microloans in the last year to help folks avoid payday lenders (annual interest for these can be 600%+).

Bridges needs volunteers for 1-2 hours a month to be intentional friends for the graduates, and to serve as a touchstone for their progress.  Training is provided.  Contact Dave Crumbley at 443.883.1201 or dave@cvirtual.com.  It's very rewarding.

Or, sign up to attend the Bridges training.  The next training is offered on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 | 8:30am-3:30pm.    You can sign up for the training at:

The club is in the process of mailing thank you letters for the Oktoberfest donations (we raised more than $14,000!). They should be received in the next week or two.  Some donations came in anonymously.  If you'd like an acknowledgement of your donation or need a correction to the thank you letter, please contact Kate Nickolls at kat.nick89519@gmail.com
