Rotary Theme for January:  
Rotary Awareness
 
 
 
Jan  5 - Victoria Ortiz, Community Engagement Manager for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.   Victoria demonstrated her expertise as a speaker by adapting her presentation to be without audio or video, and was very accommodating in answering a myriad of questions.  TRPA partners with 80 organizations in environmental improvement projects, and is currently experimenting with micro-transportation (instead of buses).  
Tahoe is the second-largest lake in the US,  and 11% is privately owned.  By the way--Mackinaw and Kokanee salmon are invasive species!

- Dan Carne's brother Scott joined us from Nebraska
- Reg Willison - had a flood in his house, but went on an Australia and New Zealand cruise anyway (or maybe flooding was when they returned?)
- Bob Hardenbrook celebrated a houseful of kids visiting from Iowa over Thanksgiving
- Heidi Howe is relieved about the mostly finished remodel (on Thanksgiving morning)
- Stan Goodin- is happy to still be here on his birthday, and enjoying snowshoeing and continuing improvement in his shoulder.
- Denny Williams- paid for 5' of snow
- Tori DellaRocca - is relieved to have power after 5 days without 
- Press Clewe was 3 days without power

- Megan Reese was presented with her Paul Harris Award +6
 
 
We are looking for volunteers for the Oktoberfest Committee.  Oktoberfest has been in limbo due to Covid, and is our major fundraiser.  Please let Bob or Press know if you'd like to help--many hands make light work!
 
Don't forget to invite our RYE student Isabella (from Spain) to family and other activities--we are her family while she is here!  
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The Rotary Club of Reno South has regular meetings on the first and third Thursdays, and are nomadic--so check in for meeting location!
 
For now scheduled for 4:15 at Macaroni Grill, 5505 S. Virginia (at the SW corner of McCarran)
 
 
 
Jan 19 - Grant Denton, Karma Box Project
Denton is a recovering drug addict, and homeless for three years. He comes from a broken family, was a high-school dropout, and became a performer on the Las Vegas Strip.  He was recently recognized as a Reno Superhero for his public service.

Proposed New Member
 
Georgette Porter is proposed as a new member by sponsor Joel Muller.  Georgette is a retired non-profit management professional, a former Rotarian from California and Georgia.  A former Rotarian, she wants to continue community service and enjoys gardening, travel and hiking.
 
 
Service Project for January - Holiday Tree Recycling  
 
 
Thank you Adrienne, Jonnie, Bob, Denny, Kate, Press, Tori and Jason--and Dylan! for participating in our service project:  recycling trees in coordination with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful.  Brownies and pecan melts were welcome snacks.  
 
We had fun AND helped our community.
