Meeting August 17

Speaker Allan Fox, a retired Reno PD cold case investigator shared the story of and the continuing investigation of the abduction and murder of Charles and Jennifer Chia in 1989.

Allan shared his (and others') motivations in continuing the investigation and some of the actions that have been taken.  New technology can often lead to solving crimes like this.  If you weren't there, you missed a very interesting program.

More about the meeting:

Prez Heidi inducted two new members:
  • Pam Diehl, Director of Career Services, Carrington College
  • Merissa Lehr, Photographer, Ezell Images
  • We will learn more about our new members in a special edition
- Denny Williams gave $100 in recognition of his 79th! birthday, and 48th anniversary.
- Kent Wood gave $50 for winning an hunting tag (elk?) and is excited to take his grandson, Jax.

Aug 24 - Field Trip to Project 150
A club email was sent earlier with more details, but our event, organized by Kate Nickolls was a success, both in donations and increasing our knowledge of this significant organization.

Maui Fires Relief Fund
The Rotary Club of Kona was Liz Heiman’s first club, and Liz has some things to share with us about Hawaii:
  • Insufficient infrastructure to handle disasters of this magnitude
  • Difficulty in sharing resources across islands
  • Hospitals are rural – major injuries usually flown to Oahu or the mainland
  • Limited aircraft to fly patients, families left behind
From her experience, Liz knows all Rotary donations To the Maui Fires Relief Fund will be used for the needs that Maui Rotarians identify, and will fill the gaps that the Food Bank, Red Cross and others can’t supply
