Jay Leno's Car Collection
John Peterson

John Peterson, Accountant and Vintage Car Appraiser, gave us an insider's look into Jay Leno's car collection. John has been a docent at Harrah's Auto Museum since 1979 and first became interested in classic cars with French-made autos. He described his first Citreon as weird, wacky and wonderful.
His introduction to Jay Leno began when he advised Leno on the purchase of a 1960 Panhard PL-17, as President of a Panhard car club. After numerous phone calls he was invited to visit Leno's Big Dog Garage in Burbank, CA where he stores 186 cars, 164 motorcycles, 4 steam engines and has a full machine shop. Leno's first automobile purchase was a Buick, which the Chinese recently consider to be America's # 1 luxury automobile.

District 5190 Matching Grant for Bridges Out of Poverty
Bret presented Prez Adrienne with a check in the amount of $5,000.00 as District 5190's matching funds for the Bridges Out of Poverty program (aka Northern Nevada Connections). Reno South is taking the lead in funding this program for a total of $9,000.00 this year. District 5190's contribution will be matched by $1,000.00 from Reno Central + $1,000.00 from Reno Centennial Sunset + $2,000.00 from Reno South. The Bridges Out of Poverty program enables families to learn about community resources to assist them in breaking the cycle of poverty which many people find themselves trapped in.

Monthly Board Report
President-Elect Kyle Whaley reported on the proceedings at this month's Board of Directors meeting held on October 23rd.

Kyle reported that this year's Oktoberfest fundraiser was deemed a great success with net income well over $11,000 (twice last year's net) and attendance of 195 (well above the 150 from last year).  The next Rotary Means Business mixer is scheduled on Wednesday, November 28 at 5:30 pm. The location is Plumas Bank on South McCarran, and all Rotarians are invited to attend. He also informed the club of Bodie Monroe's plan to send a survey to each member soliciting ideas for Community Service projects. What is your passion, and how can Reno South Rotary get involved in additional community service projects? Kyle also reported that Joel Muller has reserved Brick's Restaurant for this year's holiday party on Thursday, December 13 (we will be dark at noon on that date). Space is limited to 50 persons (Rotarians + guests) and the cost will be $70.00 per person.

Wine Trip Report
Kent Wood reported on a very enjoyable and successful wine trip which many in the club took to Amador and Eldorado Counties' wine country over the weekend of October 20-21. He even reported a profit of $242, which was the result of one winery's waived tasting fee on account of the amount of wine which the group purchased from them.
