Last Weeks Program - April 8

Student Speech Contest and Update by ABO law student Jen Rogers.

Jen participated in ABO as a senior in 2014-15, graduating from Damonte in 2015 and UNR in 2019.  She has participated in the scholarship program throughout college, including a District Scholarship, and will begin law school this year.  Jen gave an update on how ABO has impacted her college career and life.  She told us that Rotary is her family, and that she feels welcome anywhere in the world--that her experience with Rotary gave her the skills to cope with a debilitating disease sot hat it did not prevent her from pursuing her dreams.

Jen gave special kudos to RSR member Judge Scott Pearson, who provided her the first of three internships in the legal field.

Adam McKown and Caspian Crano are Wooster students participating in the ABO program this year.  They are also RSR's nominees for the Area 8 District Speech Contest.  We viewed their video submissions of the speeches about how Rotary transforms lives.

This week's Program - April 8

Chantel Dominguez, Program and Events Manager
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation

Over the past few years the Truckee Meadows parks Foundation has grown to be one of the most enterprising non-profits in the Reno-Sparks area (editor's opinion!).

Chantal will share with us the many programs that we ALL benefit from--at least 15 from web site count--including guided discover your parks events, trails challenge, student steward program and restoration of habitats, such as the "old" Rosewood Golf Course.  They have cooperative relationships with many other local organizations and use  Vista (Americorps) volunteers to extend their reach.

Join us, meet Chantel, and learn about this terrific community resource.
