Our Changing Economy was the Subject of the Program

Our speaker, Art Rangel, is a member of the Rotary Club of Reno (the downtown club), and lives in Reno intermittently between consulting jobs.

He updated us about Reno's continuing development--the number of new jobs are continuing to increase. 29 new companies have brought 2,856 new jobs. The new tech companies have starting salaries of $40/hour. We have gone from an unemployment rate of 14% in 2010 to 4.1% now.

Reno's "rating" of best small cities has increased from #11 to #5 partly because of this emerging tech and also our recreational opportunities. This is also a regional trend, and affecting Fernley, Fallon, and Douglas County. TMCC is spearheading workforce development for many of these new companies.
