January 4, 2024 - Loren Acton, Astronaut and Physicist. Loren is a Sparks Rotary Club member, and their representative on the ABO Board. His story spanned growing up on a ranch to orbiting the earth, conducting solar experiments and moving to Reno to be with family. We viewed fascinating pictures of solar flares and videos of blast-off.

In true Rotary fashion, Loren told the story about how one person changed the course of his life with caring and a conversation- and urged us not to discount how much positive effect each of us can have on (especially youth) the world.

Recycling Trees with KTMB

From Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful: A big, beautiful thank you to our sponsors and our partners! An even bigger Thank you to the over 540 volunteers who braved the elements to help KTMB collect over 7000+ Christmas Trees this year. And, of course, Thank you to everyone who brought in their tree to be recycled and kept it out of the landfill or being illegally

RSR members and friends recycled more than 75 trees in four hours. It was cold! Kate & Jonnie wore their Antarctic gear.
And fun! Thanks especially to Press (for hot chocolate)< Kate (organizing from afar and providing muffins) and whoever brought donuts.

The Rotary Club of Reno South has regular meetings on the first and third Thursdays of each month @ 4:00 p.m. at Swill Coffee and Wine.

January Jan 18 - Karol Hines will share information about the Truckee Tahoe Soaring Association (TTSA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit It is a world-renowned gliderport at the Truckee Tahoe Airport in Truckee California. Their STEM program for students helps the student in math and science and prepares them to earn their pilot's license.

Karol is the Board President of the Association, a Stanford Business School graduate and owner of a consulting firm providing services to start-up companies.

Join us to welcome her and continue our January exploration of flight and science.

February Service Project

Kate Nickolls is working with Linda Haigh to schedule a tour of the AAVD (Adopt A Vet Dental) Clinic. We are considering Thursday, February 22nd. I have requested late in the day, after 4pm. She is also seeking information from Veterans Guest House and Work for Warriors Nevada about volunteer opportunities instead of donations.
