Growing Membership via Crowd Funding
Steve Mestre, District 5190 Membership Chair, informed the club on how to use crowd funding to help the club complete community service projects while increasing
membership at the same time. He developed the website Givingtrail.com which lists projects and processes donations from members' contacts. All a Rotary club needs to do in order to crowd fund a project is to: 1. create a photo of the project; 2. provide a written description of the project; 3. create a budget, and 4. request donations and volunteers to complete the project.

Members of the Rotary club then send requests for donations to known prospects, friends, and associates via an email. Donors receive a receipt for tax deductions where applicable, and a complete update on the outcome of the project once it is complete.

Steve is a past president of the Rotary Club of Reno and increased that club's membership by 48 new members the year he was president using this crowd funding technique.

Paul Harris Fellow Recognition

Jonathan King became the newest Reno South Rotarian to receive his Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Thanks to Jonathan's $1,000 contribution to The Rotary Foundation, Rotary International can continue to do good in the world. Jonathan is pictured below receiving his Paul Harris Fellow recognition certificate and pin with his wife Eve and President Adrienne.

Committee Report of the Month
Community Service
Bodie Monroe reported on this year's plans for Community Service.
Robinhood Park, built in 1995 by Reno South Rotary, is in disrepair and very much in need of repairs and maintenance. Bodie and Jonnie will meet with the Director of Parks for the City of Reno to learn about what the club can reasonably do to provide much needed maintenance/repair. At the very least, we will schedule a clean-up day.
Bridges Out of Poverty - RSR is the lead club from Area 8 in fulfilling a $9,000 District Grant to assist the Bridges Out of Poverty program.  Dave Cromley, Past President of Reno Central, presented Prez Adrienne with a $1,000 check from Reno Central. Those funds will be matched with $1,000 from Reno Centennial Sunset, $2,000 from Reno South and $5,000 from District 5190. Volunteers are needed to assist in delivering the program. Volunteers, on average, assist for four hours per month.
Achievement Beyond Obstacles (ABO)
The ABO program was started by Reno South Rotary as the Most Improved Students (MIS), and has been joined by the Rotary Club of Reno, Reno Central, and the Rotary Club of Sparks. It is an innovative scholarship program dedicated to students usually overlooked by other programs. Once nominated, students attend an intensive 18-hour weekend Leadership Academy designed to equip them with new skills to succeed in school and in life. A substantial amount of the funds which Reno South Rotary raises each year are donated to the ABO program.

Bodie would like to hear from the members of Reno South Rotary on any Community Service projects they would like to be involved with in the future. Look for a survey/questionnaire from him in your email in the near future.

It's Wine Time

Railroad Crossing Safety
Richard Gent of Union Pacific Railroad will present the national educational program on railroad crossing safety awareness. Unfortunately, for railroad engineers it is not a matter of "if" they will be involved in a railroad fatality, it is a matter of "when". Come learn the best ways to stay safe when encountering a railroad crossing.
