Meeting September 24

Deanna Spikula, Washoe County Registrar of Voters

Deanna has been working with elections in Washoe County since 2011, and as Registrar since 2017.  She filled us in on the ins and outs of the upcoming election.  Some interesting points:
  • Nevada has a very coordinated approach to elections, all counties purchased new ballot machines prior to the 2018 elections
  • Nevada is ahead of many other states that are less coordinated and have old machines
  • If you vote by mail, be sure to have only one ballot per envelope!
  • Yes, they do check signatures and yes they do keep track of which voters have sent in ballots--so don't try to vote 2x--it's a felony!
  • Mail in ballots postmarked before or on election day will be accepted within 7 days.  There will be daily updates on the count.  Provisional ballots are counted last.
  • We have enough poll workers!!  1500+ applicants, compared to 500 last election.
  • You can drop your ballot in any official collection box or go to any voting location to cast your ballot.
  • Everyone (including voters) will wear masks, sanitizers will be abundant, and cleaning, constant, if you want to vote in person on election day or early voting locations.

More about the meeting:

Jonnie Pullman paid $1 for every year she has resided on this planet--her friends know how much this is!

Melany Denny owned up to a birthday and an anniversary with nothing to do but sit on a Tahoe beach to celebrate.  Adhering to Jonnie's example, she pledged $1 per year on this planet as well.
