Fayth Ross, of Urban Roots provided the club with an informative and colorful presentation.  Urban Roots isn't just about planting a community garden.  In their 11th year of operation, Urban Roots has 4 goals for the children participating in their "learning through gardening" program:  (1) academic achievement (2) healthy living (3) Environmental Stewardship (4) community service.

They use their 1+ acre lost on Gould near the Renown campus to provide outdoor classrooms and raised garden beds.  The local programs, which include Day Camps and school gardens are the only ones in the state funded (partly) with a USDA grant.  The curriculum supports science learning, and is available to local schools.

Some local Rotary clubs have adopted a school garden to help it get started and provide assistance.
