Achievement Beyond Obstacles Student Presentations

This year's students have overcome a lot, not just in their own challenging lives, but also dealing with the first worldwide pandemic in more than 100 years. With the exception of Leadership Weekend, ABO was virtual this year. Reno South Rotarians and guests viewed 5 amazing videos of students sharing their obstacles and their plans for the future.. Each of these students are competing for scholarships ranging from $500-$3,500!

ABO volunteers will interview up to 15 students next week for first year scholarships, and are evaluating continuing students for scholarships as well.

We will have an ABO scholarship awards celebration June 4--an ice cream social from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Sugarloaf Pavilion in Lazy 5 Regional Park. COME HELP US CELEBRATE these students. The price is a meager $10 at the door (cash only). RSVP at

Details:	Hi Fellow Rotarians, Reno Rotary is having a Work Day on Riverside Drive on June 6th from 10am to 1pm. KTMB will be planting in Bicentennial Park in the morning, until 10am, so be sure you are signing up for the later time. Here is the KTMB link to signup to volunteer: https://signup.com/go/dJLpGpU Our jobs will be to spread 100 bags of great soil and put down some fertilizer. We're going to start at the end closest to Hub Coffee, so park where you can find a space. Bring gloves, hats, sunscreen and water (we'll have some, too). This is a great opportunity to have some fun with other Rotarians and do something really good for our city.

Chairman, Sky Tavern

About 15 years ago, Reno South Rotary donated $40,000 to Sky Tavern to pay for a ski lift to expand the capabilities of an all-volunteer program. Not only is it still operating, the Sky Tavern program has expanded beyond most of our imaginations.

The new Board has a long-term lease from the City of Reno, and is developing year round programs.

Who better to share the new Sky Tavern story than its new Chairman, Yale Spina, whose grandfather helped found the facility. Not only that, but Yale credits Sky Tavern with a 17-year around-the-world professional ski career from his learning to ski at this unique facility.
