March 2 Meeting Recap:

Staci Alonso, Founder of Noah's Animal House provided us with an update on the newest shelter for animals who are companions of homeless women who are escaping domestic abuse here in Reno.

A high percentage of women who are experiencing domestic violence and abuse do not leave their situation simply because they know their abuser will take it out on their pet. Noah's Animal House, established in Las Vegas in 2007, was the first full-service pet kennel on the grounds of a domestic violence shelter in the country. A second location in Reno was then built in partnership with the Domestic Violence Resource Center in 2018. Noah's has partnered with major pet companies such as Purine to pass the PAWS Act in late 2018, which recognizes pets in protection orders and supplies grant funds for pet services to women's shelters.

Based on her deep understanding of the role pets play in our lives; especially during crisis, Alonso opened Bone-ito, a shop for dogs and cats in the new Village at Rancharrah in south Reno in 2021. A direct contribution is made to Noah's with every purchase allowing all shoppers to give back with their daily pet needs.
