The Atlantis Catering Department is requesting that we provide them with an estimated headcount three business days prior to our meeting. That means I need to know if you are planning to attend our weekly Rotary meeting by NOON this Thursday, July 8th. You and your family are invited to the Reno South Rotary Annual Family Picnic. We will be returning to Burnt Cedar Beach this year with the prime beach front picnic area reserved through the most gacious efforts of Kent Wood. There are a number of details related to this event, which I will communicate in this invitation, Please be sure to accept or decline this invitation by the end of the day on Tuesday, July 27th. This will allow the committee to plan appropriately for the quantity of food and supplies necessary to create a great social event for all attendees. What: Reno South Rotary Annual Family Picnic When: Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm Where: Burnt Cedar Beach, Incline Village, Lake Tahoe Note: There is an admission fee to access this recreational area. The cost is: $15 per adult; $5 for kids ages 6-12; and children under 6 years of age are free. Admission is for ALL DAY, so if you and your family would like to access the lake and beach early you may do so. We have reserved the picnic area for 1/2 day from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. Appetizers: Shrimp and BBQ Spare Ribs Entree: Steaks Salads, Side Dishes and Desserts to be provided by attendees. Thanks to the generosity and tireless efforts of our own Kent Wood, we have reserved the prime beach-front picnic area for you and your family to enjoy for the entire day on Aug 28th. With the cancellation of our Annual Family Picnic and Reno Central's cancellation of their evening social, we WILL hold a joint meeting at noon this coming Tuesday, August 31. This is not a lecture on why you should or should not believe in CRT, not an admonitiion either way, but rather an explanation of what the ncmenclature really means and whether or not it is taught in Washoe County. Tuesday, September 21 - Ann Marie Williams Ann Marie is the major Whistleblower for Suboxone, a drug intended to treat opiod addiction. The companies involved are Reckitt Benckiser, PLC and Indivior. The total fine for both civil and crinimal penalties was $2 billion and both the CEO and Medical Director were charged with misdemeanors and the CEO served 6 months in a federal prison and the Medical Director under House Arrest. Due to the prosecution, they are only the 2nd high ranking pharmaceutical executives to see prosecution and prison time. |

The Rotary Club of Reno South, in cooperation with treesRus, is sponsoring the Washoe Lake State Park Restoration Project and we need you, your spouse, friends, children, and/or grandchildren to participate in order to make this Community Service Project a success. This event is scheduled on Saturday, October 23 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the main entrance to Washoe Lake State Park located on East Lake Boulevard in Washoe Valley. We are organizing car pools/ride sharing from south Reno to Washoe Valley in an attempt to secure your participation. Please meet in the front parking lot (SE Corner) at Tamarack Junction casino - 13101 S. Virginia Street at 8:30 am to organize the car pools. We will return as soon as the project is completed. You will need to bring a rake, shovel, pruning sheers, work gloves and your favorite morning beverage to help in clearing brush and plant material which was damaged in a fire during this past summer (see attached flyer). We will also be planting around 30 trees to replace those which were damaged in the fire. The treesRus organization will provide some bottled water and light breakfast snacks as well. We hope to see you on Saturday, October 23 as we complete this Community Service Project and "SERVE TO CHANGE LIVES"! |

This week's program will be of special interest for its international perspective. Our guest speaker will be Jenifer Colpas Fernandez, founder and CEO of Tierra Grata. She will present to us via Zoom from the UK. Tierra Grata is a social enterprise that provides access to basic energy, water and sanitation services to rural communities in Columbia. To date, they have managed to reach around 10,000 users. Ms. Fernandez has postgraduate studies in Social Responsibility and graduate studies in International Business with more than 6 years of experience in the management of social development programs in Brazil and Columbia. Jenifer is also a Global Sharper and One Young World Ambassador since 2017. |
